Dr. Richard Hernandez is the Dean of Allied Health Sciences at Trident Technical College. He is also an adjunct Associate Professor of Health Administration and Policy at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). He received his Associate of Arts degree in respiratory therapy from Butte College in (Oroville) California, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies,  a Master of Public Health degree in Health Administration (M.P.H.), and a Doctor of Public Health degree in Health Administration (Dr.P.H.) from the University of South Carolina.

    Dr. Hernandez was the Director of Clinical Education for Midlands Technical College respiratory therapy programs from 1979-1989, and department chair for Allied Health Sciences at Midlands Technical College from August 1989 to August 1990. From 1989 to 1995 he was a faculty member in the Undergraduate Health Sciences program at MUSC and was the program director from 1995-2002. He is retired from the Navy Reserve and has extensive clinical and operational health care experience with the Fleet Marine Force.  He currently serves as the Chief Medical Services Officer for the 3rd Brigade of the South Carolina State Guard. His areas of interest include tobacco related health care issues, health care manpower, multi-skilling in health care, migrant and minority access to health, and web-based delivery of health care information and training.
